What is a bunkering operator?
The refueler's job involves supplying fuel to aircraft at airports, airfields and helipads. Refuellers are responsible for the smooth running of refuelling operations, in strict compliance with safety procedures, environmental standards and current regulations. One of their main tasks is fuel quality control. To achieve this, they need to be extremely rigorous, and have a thorough knowledge of a wide range of subjects relating to fuel filtration and contamination, the environment, health and safety, and so on.
The fuel supplier is a key link in the airport chain.
What the regulations say
The French decree of December 12, 2000 makes training compulsory for refuellers working on airports, aerodromes and helipads. This training combines theory and practice, covering aspects of fuel handling, refuelling procedures, fire safety and equipment maintenance. The skills acquired following this training must be renewed every three years.
In addition to training in bunkering procedures, these staff must be trained in other areas:
ADR 8.2 - Bunkers (Base and oil tanker)
Gestures and postures
Fire extinguisher handling
