Basic ADR training: the program
Duration :
3 days - 21h
Objectives:
Meet the regulatory obligations of ADR §8.2 - Dangerous goods road drivers.
Obtain the Basic ADR Certificate for Truck Drivers following the Basic ADR examination.
Acquire basic knowledge of the transport of dangerous goods by road, and of the risks involved.
Know the rules concerning handling (loading and unloading), labeling, packaging, signage and conformity of vehicles transporting hazardous materials and their documents.

Prerequisites for registration :
No prerequisites required by regulations, but the ability to read and write French is recommended.
What is Basic
ADR Basic Training?
Basic ADR training is compulsory for all drivers transporting dangerous goods by road (above a certain quantity threshold, see Chapter 1.1.3.6 of the ADR). It is called "Basic" because it is a common base for all drivers of dangerous goods by land. It then provides access to additional training courses:
Basic ADR training must be renewed every 5 years, enabling you to extend your ADR Certificate. To do this, you need to take part in a Basic ADR Training - Refresher course.
How to finance Basic
ADR training?
Throughout your working life, you accumulate training rights that can be used at any time in your career, regardless of your sector of activity: these funds are stored in your Personal Training Account. You can contribute between €5,000 and €8,000 (for the least qualified and/or disabled) depending on your profile, and this fund is regenerated every year if you haven't reached this ceiling.
BVT, a training organization accredited by the French Ministry of Transport, enables you to finance your ADR - Transport de Marchandises Dangereuses - training courses using funds accumulated on your CPF. Of course, other funding is also possible: Pôle Emploi, your employer...

How do I get my Basic ADR Certificate?
Your ADR Certificate, or ADR Card, is obtained by passing the final exam at the end of the ADR Base Initial training course. -
How does the Basic ADR exam work?
The final exam of the ADR Basic course comes at the end of your training. Although you will complete several case studies during the course, the exam takes the form of an MCQ only.

How long is the initial Basic ADR training course?
This training course lasts 3 days for a total of 21h. It provides you with the basic knowledge you need to transport hazardous materials, and includes study and presentation of the regulations, practical exercises and a fire simulation exercise.

Is it possible to attend a Basic ADR training course online?
The regulations do not allow this distance learning course to be attended. They stipulate that all learners must be present in the room from the first to the last day of training.

Can I drive a tanker with a Basic ADR?
The Basic ADR Certificate is not enough to drive a tanker truck carrying dangerous goods. To do so, you need to attend an additional ADR training course, known as tank specialization, and pass the final exam to obtain an ADR Card qualified for this mode of transport.

When do I have to take my Basic ADR refresher course?
If you wish to keep your Basic ADR Certificate valid for up to 5 years, you must recycle it. To do this, you need to attend a 2-day refresher course.
