Instructors and tutors: the key to safety and competence
In the demanding road transport sector, mastering skills is a major challenge for safety, regulatory compliance and profitability. The transmission of knowledge cannot be left to chance: this is where in-house tutors and instructors play a decisive role. These in-house experts are the guarantors of the successful integration of new recruits, as well as the ongoing skills upgrading of experienced drivers.
Instructors pass on essential theoretical and practical knowledge, particularly in terms of safety and compliance with regulations such as the FCO (Formation Continue Obligatoire). The tutor, on the other hand, accompanies the driver directly in the field, ensuring personalized follow-up and a transfer of skills adapted to real-life situations. Both are experienced drivers, with a keen sense of pedagogy and willingness to pass on best practices to newcomers to their company, as well as to their more experienced colleagues.
Their mission goes beyond simple guidance: they ensure the rigorous application of best practices, from preventive driving and eco-driving to the mastery of essential techniques such as cargo securing. To meet this challenge, these professionals must not only excel in their trade, but also possess solid teaching skills to effectively coach, motivate and assess their learners.

The special case of delegated FCO approval
What is delegated approval?
What the regulations say
Compulsory Continuing Training (Formation Continue Obligatoire - FCO) is governed by the French Transport Code and ministerial decrees on driver training. It must be provided by an FCO-approved organization, recognized by the competent authority (DREAL). The FCO instructor works under the responsibility of this approved organization. He or she is responsible for running training sessions in line with the regulatory program, aimed at updating drivers' skills in terms of safety, social regulations and rational driving. The FCO must be renewed every 5 years if the driver is to continue to operate legally.
Delegation of FCO approval
The approved organization remains solely responsible for the conformity of the training delivered: it must ensure that the delegating company complies with regulatory requirements in terms of qualified trainers, teaching resources, suitable premises and administrative follow-up. Once the agreement is in place, the company can organize FCO sessions in close collaboration with the approved organization, which supervises the conduct of each training session and remains in charge of issuing official certificates.
APTH-BVT has two FCO approvals, in the Auvergne - Rhône-Alpes and Bourgogne - Franche-Comté regions, and can help you in the process of obtaining your FCO approval delegation. To do so, the company's head office, or the entity to which its instructors are attached, must be located in one of these two regions.
If you would like to start this process, or simply find out more about it and how it works, our teams will be happy to discuss it with you.
